Bar do Jurez

I heard about Bar do Jurez having a good reputation. I got a chance to go there at last. Picanha was as good as the reputation and beer was .... yummy! We went there for Saturday lunch. It opens at noon and it gets busy after 2pm. Yes, Brazilians have lunch late especially on a weekend. This pub is also very popular for dinner time. If you wanna go there in the evening, you had better try arriving early, or it would be packed.

Tantra

I went to Tantra for J's co-worker's engagement pary. The restaurant has a unique style for food. It looked like buffet, we pick some food and have them int the bowl. There is a big grill pan and we give the bowl to a staff. They stirfry it and serve it. That was fun. We can pick the food and seasoning. I liked the atomosphere, but I don't love the price. The food and one drink cost about R$100. I enojoyed it, but I won't go there again.

Cosmopolitan Bistro Lounge

The atmosphere was nice, but I didn't love the food much. The wine list was not great. I don't think I will go to the restaurant again. Just to remember it, I will keep this here.

salad with salmon tartar

green salad : too much cheese

Haburger : it's not special and french fries were not good.

ravioli : one piece of ravioli was big.

Dui

I went to this restaurant for lunch during restaurant week. It was bright and nice. There was a terras on the 2nd floor. I had a special menu for the restaurant week. I am not sure they have same menu usually, but all of them were pretty good. I enjoyed it. starter : Salada verde com cogumelos paris e queijo manchego

: Creme de beterraba frio com creme Fraiche de limão Siciliano - If it was served for dessert, I would expect it cassis flavor. It was cold beet soup.

main dish : Fraldinha grelhada com risoto de abóbora e favas - the steak was a bit chewy, but the ressot was perfect!

: Saint Pierre com tabule de quinua e pesto de hortelã

Dessert : Tartare de manga com manjericão e espuma de coco - there was another choice of dessert, brownie, but we all picked this.

Kaa

I have been to this restaurant last year and it was good. It is stylish and the waiters are sophisticated. They have a good wine list. convert : some bread with cream cheese, butter, anchovi garlic oil?, olive oil from the left

appetizer : beef tartar, french fry - tartar was good, but the french fry was salty. well it's not surprising, Brazilian food is kind of salty most of the time.

Main dish :

dessert : mille-feuille

wine for main dish : Yume 2006 montepulciano d'Abruzzo - I like montephlciano d'Abruzzo. We have had Yume before and it was great. I am not sure what year, but 2006 was also good.

Badejo

I heard a good reputation for muqueca of this restaurant. They say, it tastes lighter than regular moqueca because using olive oil instead of dende oil which is palm oil. I think that is why people, specially Japanese, like this restaurant. In fact, it has a menu in Japanese. This surprised me. As usual restaurant deal with seafood, it was not cheap but I was happy. We order moqueca for 3 and shared for 4. We stuffed.

casquinha de siri - crab meat. I heard it was really good. hmmm, it was ok but I won't order it next time.

moqueca de badejo e caramao rosa - badejo is fish like cod, I think. caramao rosa is shrimp. It was good. The moqueca was served with rice, tomato fish paste and banana falofa.

Eclipse

I found this restaurant on internet and it looked popular among tourists. I had thought it was just a diner or something easy, but it was way better. It was just a nice restaurant. Once I went to the lady's room, I got why tourist liked here. Food was good and it had English menu which was nice.

Parmegiana - yummy! mashed potato, cutlet overed with tomato sauce and cheese! Can you believe that this portion for one person. I suggest you to share.

caramao - I forgot the name. J was hungry for shrimp but he didn't love this.

Siri Mole & Cia

This restaurant is known as muqueca, which is Brazilian seafood stew. It was the first muqueca for me, so there's nothing I can compare it to. I liked it. I found this restaurant on internet and the reputation was ok, but some complains about the price. Just remember seafood in Brazil is expensive. The atmosphere was chic. It would be nice if you wanna go to a decent restaurant in Rio de Janeiro.

Bendito

It is an easy style bar but the food is not cheap. I live very close to this bar, I sometime stop for a drink. I think picanha is one of the most popular foods here. Raw beef and a small table top grill were served and we grill the meat by ourselves. It is seasoned with only rock salt but tastes good.

Cervejaria Braugarten

Braugarten looked like a German pub, they had some kinds of imported beer. The food is good. One plate is big enough to share for 2 people. Sortido do Cervejeiro was too big for 2 of us and we took leftovers to go. There's only one dissapointment for me. The price of beer..... the 355ml bottle of Bohemia was about R$6. I can have the 6ooml bottle of Bohemia with almost same price at a pub or a lanchonete. Well, I shouldn't compare the price between a restaurante and a lanchonete.
Forget about the beer, I will come over when I am hungry for pork.

Beer : Oettinger Hefeweizen (wheat beer) & Therezopolis

Vila Nova

Vila Nova is what it is called, "Paes e Doces (bread and sweets)". But it is also a lanchonete. A lanchonete is just like a dinner in the U.S. Most of the customers are local people and they sometimes enjoy chatting with neighbors passing by. The difference between a lanchonete and a diner is that a lanchonete serves alcohol. I am not sure if there are any places that don't have alcohol in Brazil. You can understand that a lanchonete means a diner which has alcohol.
Vila Nova was not special for me. You would find a similar lanchonete everywhere. This is just for a note to remind me. If I lived close to Vila Nova, I would go to have lunch every weekend though.

Lunch at Bananeira

Finally, we went to Bananeira for lunch. It cost about R$50 per person. They had some kinds of feijoada, meat and salad. And also they had live music. Whether we like or not, we had to pay for it. It was just about R$4 and we liked it anyway. When we arrived at the restaurant just after 1pm, it was getting busy. I think around 3pm is the busiest time for Saturday lunch. Yes, it is Brazil!

Hocca bar

We went to mercado municipal. It is a central market and a popular place not only for tourists but also for local people. There are many stores of fish, fruits and e.t.c on the first floor and a food court on the second floor. We had lunch at Hocca bar which is popular as bacalhau pastel and sandwiches. Bacalhau is preserved codfish in salt. It was first time for me to try bacalhau. It was not bad but I was not fond of it. And the sandwich is............... is it really a sandwich? It was huge. I felt like I was eating just ham. The bread was just like to keep my fingers clean. I don't usually eat ham so often. I think I ate as much ham as I have eaten in a year. Did I say something similar last night too?

Churrascaria Vento Haragano

It has been 6 months since we came to Brazil. Finally, we went to Churrascaria restaurant. There is a buffet table at the middle of the restaurant and you pick from some appetizers and salad. The waiter comes to our table and gives us endless meat from a big stick. Yes. It is a MEAT PARTY! I think I had as much meat yesterday at a restaurant as I have had for one year at home. We have a small card like a coaster and one side says "yes please" and another says "no thank you". This is a message for the waiter and as long as we put "yes please", the waiter keeps serving meat. They have various parts of beef, chicken, pork, sausage, fish and lamb. I liked picanha(rumpsteak) and lamb. Churrasco is not cheap and I am not sure if I could eat as much as I paid, but it is worth.

Brasil a gosto

It is Restaurant week from Mar. 1 to Mar. 14th. I went to Brasil a gosto which is a popular Brazilian restaurant. The restaurant was packed, even though it was a weekday lunch time. It is not my business but I saw some people openned a bottle of wine. I am saying I really envied them. My friend picked fish for her entree. She gave me a bite and it was pretty good. It was crunchy outside and it was matched with sauce. My entree was risotto with beans. I had to add some salt, but it was not bad. It had banana, cheese and palm heart on the rissoto. The dessert, pudding, was good. I mean it was not so sweet that I could eat it all. Usually sweets in Brazil are unbelievably sweet. But this was just right and even I, who don't have a sweet tooth, enjoyed it untill the last bite.
