Panya Bakery Itiriki

A Japanese bakery sells many different kinds of bread; pizza bread, hot dog, sandwiches and pastry. Panya is a typical Japanese bakery. Once going into the bakery, you might forget that you are in Brazil. I picked "Quatro queijo(4 cheese)". It has cheese and mayo on the bread. I saw Melon pan and An-pan(sweet beans paste in the bun) was sold. Pan means bread or bun. It was a little bit more pricy than Japan, but it is worth it. How wonderful that I can enjoy a Japanese bakery in Brazil!

Vila Nova

Vila Nova is what it is called, "Paes e Doces (bread and sweets)". But it is also a lanchonete. A lanchonete is just like a dinner in the U.S. Most of the customers are local people and they sometimes enjoy chatting with neighbors passing by. The difference between a lanchonete and a diner is that a lanchonete serves alcohol. I am not sure if there are any places that don't have alcohol in Brazil. You can understand that a lanchonete means a diner which has alcohol.
Vila Nova was not special for me. You would find a similar lanchonete everywhere. This is just for a note to remind me. If I lived close to Vila Nova, I would go to have lunch every weekend though.

Since I started working, I cook at night for the next day's dinner. Tonight's menu was going to be Sardine and Vegetable with Tomato sauce. Yes, it WAS. Last night, I made tomato sauce and took sardines out of the freezer. I was going to put it back in the refridgerator, but I totally forgot it. It didn't smell bad this morning, so I threw it into the tomato sauce. It looked tasty! I called my mom just to make sure that the sardines were ok. "Don't even think about it. Sardines get bad really soon. You would be sick " said Mom. What have I done? I should have called my mom before cooking. If I had know it, I could have kept tomato sauce. Sorry, J. Tonight's dinner is Ramen from a package.

All I have to do is grill! I don't buy beef so often here and I realized how cheap it is. Look at the picture above. I had 2 pieces. One package had 4 pieces and it cost less than US$4. My American friend said it doesn't taste bad. Well, nobody can complain if they know the price.
