It was a noodle day. Pasta for lunch and Ramen for dinner. I was going to eat out but we changed our mind. However, I didn't feel like cooking. So I picked ramen, which is easy to make. H is always hungry for ramen and I am sure that my choice made him happy. Besides, I just received a package from mom in Japan and she sent some good ramen. We liked it. Thanks, mom.

Outback steakhouse

I don't think I need to introduce the Outback steakhouse. Do you have happy hour in your city too? The happy hour here, 6pm - 8pm, is that you can get two drinks for one. I love it! That means if you order one beer, your partner can get one beer for free. The poplar restaurants usually get busy after 9pm, but here, Outback steakhouse, is packed before 8pm. I am talking about Outback steakhouse in Morumbi and I am not sure about other branches.

Caipiroska com maracuja
Ribs, Wings and Chips
Drink : Caipiroska com maracuja x 2 (I just paid for one! Happy hour rules!)

I changed the publishing style. I thought it means a lot about diet to keep not only what I eat but also what time I eat.
I had lunch at my friend's place. She made falafel. It was really good. I had a same recipe but I never tried to make it. She did good job. When I am hungry for falafel, I will call her. Thanks, Ms. F!

Okra gohan

I like okra a lot, but I have heard okura is not popular in the U.S. because of the texture. H says it is icky. That icky stuff is fiber and helps to reduce cholesterol, and also okra is good for digestion. Then I thought okra might be less icky to cook with rice. In a result, H said it's ok. I like okra anyway, so it was good enough for me.

Ingredients : serves 3 - 4 (4 cups)

160 cc rice : wash and drain well
5 okra : cut into pieces
one pinch Katsuobushi(dried shaved bonito)
1 tsp cooking sake
2 tsp soy sauce
200 cc water

Preparation :

1. Put all ingredients in the pot, which has a heavy lid is preferred
2. Put it on the stove and let it boiled
3. Use the very low heat and put the lid on and cook for 12 min.
4. Turn off the heat and cook by steam for 10 min.
5. Done

Note : This is arranged from basic rice. All I want you to remembre is no to open the lid during cooking.

Jan. 28

Breakfast : a glass of milk, a glass of orange juice, Nanbanzuke(leftovers), yogurt, 2 cups of cofee

I drank milk this morning as I had run out of soy milk. Just after drinking milk, I realized it was for H's cereal. He had cereal with yogurt. Sorry, buddy. I went to the grocery store and bought both milk and soy milk. H will have 2 choice tomorrow morning.

Ghirardelli chocolate

I received a package from the U.S. and what I found was my favorite chocolate!!!!! As soon as I saw the chocolate, I opened it and ate without thinking. It's so good. There's buttery caramel filling in the milk chocolate. That melts my heart. (it might also melt my teeth). I am not usually hungry for sweets, but this is a different story about Ghirardelli Squares chocolate. The package says "Ghirardelli - Moments of TImeless Pleasure". Yes, that's right! Thank you so much, mom!

Jan. 27

Breakfast : a glass of soy milk, a glass of smootie(orange, banana, mango, wheat germ, yogurt), one boiled egg, curry(leftovers of last night), 2 cups of coffee

Lunch : Curry(leftovers of last night) with bread, chocolate

Dinner : Wakasagi no Nanbanzuke(Japanese smelt marinated in vinegar and spice), Kiriboshi daikon(dried Japanese radish), Hakusai no Karashi-shoyu ae(Japanese cabbage marinated karashi masturd and shoyu), Kabocha no misoshiru(pumpkin miso-soup), Okura gohan(okura rice)

Alcohol : 3 glasses of red wine, rum shot x 3

Other : water 40 oz, chocolate x 2, popcorn, rice crackers

This morning, I smelled curry from somewhere, not from my kitchen. I guess the curry I had last night made someone hungry. It happens. And the smell made me hungry for curry again. Is there a multiplication effect? Curry tastes better than the privous day and I enjoyed yesterday's leftovers for lunch.

Jan. 26

Breakfast : a glass of soy milk, a glass of smoothie(orange, banana, mango, wheat germ, yogurt), one boiled egg, a cup of coffee

Alcohol : 2 glasses of red wine
Other : water 32 oz, some pieces of cheese

Lunch

I was not going to take a picture of Lunch, but it looked good to gather them on the plate. Doesn't it look like a plate for vegan?

Dinner

Japanese curry is different from Indian cuisine. Stew meat and vegetables in the pot, and add curry mix. You can get the curry mix at a Japanese grocery store. It is easy to make and popular food in Japan. The ingredients of tonight's curry are carioca beans, carrots, onions, corn and grean peas. I put a boiled egg as animal protein. One package of curry mix serves 4. I am sure that I will have the curry for lunch tomorrow. I am kinda looking forward to tomorrow's lunch. I like curry!

Pear cake

Dinner

I was hungry for something sweet this morning, but I don't feel like eating regular pan cakes with syrup. Then I decided to bake a cake. I almost never bake cakes, because I can't add ingredients during cooking and I don't know if it is going to be good until it's done. The cake I baked is the only cake I can make. It is very easy and I haven't messed up yet. I had pear in the cake this time, but it is also good with banana or apple.
Dinner was very simple. It might seem too simple, but it's ok. We had a juicy beef hamburger last night.

2010-01-24

Jan. 24

Breakfast : a glass of soy milk, scrambled egg, one plum, 2 cups of coffee

Lunch : Chirashizushi(rice mixed with vineger and some vegitables), water with gas

DinnerH made Hamburger. That means he was really hungry for hamburger. Didn't he have hamburger last week, too? Ok, whatever. I always like H's hambarger. To have less carbs, I sliced bun in 3 and got rid of middle part. Isn't it a good idea? I know it doesn't make a big difference, but it just eases my mind.

Food : Negima x 1, Tebasaki x 2, Tsukune x 1, Tomato & Bacon x 1, Oden(Daikon x 1, Konnyaku x 1), Tori soboro don(small size) x 1
What a simple name! Yakitoriya serves yakitori, that's why it's name is yakitoriya. Would you name "Steak resutaurant" if you open steak restaurant? Anyway, this restaurant is very popular amomng Japanese. It seemed there were all Japanese except H and the staff. There is not only yakitori but also oden, sushi, ramen and other Japanese food. Oden is cooked food with fish broth. We usually order yakitori and oden. These are pretty good. I recommend Tori soboro don, which is cooked minced chicken on white rice. The small size is enough for 2 people.

For H

We stopped at a food stand in one corner of the park. We picked bread buns. It looked like bread buns and there was meat inside. H's looked like a no-veggies hambuger.

5. Put fried carrots on the paper to drain oil

6. Sprinkle salt on the fried carrots

Note : You can use more oil just like when you fry french fries. It might be better, but I am too lazy to clean the pot after that.

Rice

Japanese eat rice almost every day. The rice cooker is an essensial tool. I can say every family has a rice cooker. In spite of that, I don't have one. I live in Brazil and we use a different voltage.
You can cook rice without a rice cooker. I sometime cook rice with some ingredients, but this is the basic. Here's the recipe.

Ingredients : serves 3 - 4 ( 3 - 4 cups)

160 cc rice
200 cc water

Preparation :

1. Wash rice and drain well.
2. Put rice and water in the pot, which has heavy lid is preferred
3. Put it on the stove and let it boil.
4. Use very low heat, put the lid on and cook for 12 min. NEVER open the lid.
5. Turn off the heat and cook by steam for 10 min. NEVER open the lid.
6. Done!

Note : During cooking, Do not open the lid, or you would ruin the rice. That's why I recommend you to use the heavy lid. I use Le Creuset pot. I like it.

Lamen Kazu

Shoyu Ramen (Ramen, soy sauce flavor)

Gyoza (dumpling)

We went to Lamen Kazu for lunch on Sunday. It seemed pretty popular. I know 2 ramen restaurants in Liberdade, Lamen Kazu and Lamen Asuka, and both of them are busy most of the time. Personally, I prefer Lamen Kazu. I ordered Shoyu(soy sauce) flavor and H ordered Miso flavor. I liked my ramen, but the soup was a little bit sweet for me. I don't think I will order shoyu flavor next time. Gyoza was also good. I like the gyoza here the best so far in Sao Paulo, although I haven't tried enought other restrant's.
BTW, we usually spell "R"amen, but in Portugues, it is "L"amen. I guess if it spells "ramen", it would pronounce "hamen" or something like that.

Almanara on 15th

Sesami chicken

Sfiha de verdura(Vegetable Sfiha)
Drink : Agua com gas(water with gas)
Food : Sfiha de verdura, Sesami chicken
Water with gas is very popular in Brazil. When you order water, the waiter would ask you if you'd like it with gas or without. Water is not free, anyway. I shared the plate of sesame chicken with my friend. Too small for dinner? Yes, coz I had some pao de queijo before.
